In a previous post, I made the case that the overly rich multiplier used in the 1990s that underlies the current underfunding of the AFM-EP Fund was a result of Federal tax law and not of bad decision-making on the part of the then-Trustees. Recently Martha Hyde, a member of Local 802 and a former officer there, posted this article from 2013 on Facebook. The author, Megan McArdle, (currently a columnist at the Washington Post), comes at most issues from a right-libertarian perspective, so perhaps her take is not that surprising. But it's very well-written, and worth a read.
